Meet Kelsey: The Amazing Rescue Dog with a Remarkable Journey to Confidence and Obedience

This is Kelsey and she has a real Cinderella story to share. At 4 months old, she was taken to Franklin Ranch Hospital where it was determined that she had a foreign body obstruction. Kelsey’s family instructed the vet to euthanize her. Fortunately, the treating veterinarian and the staff felt like Kelsey had so much life to live and so the family to agreed to surrender Kelsey. After trying themselves to get her rehomed, they were out of time, so they called Wilton Animal Rescue for help.

When Kelsey came to Wilton Animal Rescue, it became apparent that she had either not received any proper training or had forgotten it in the trauma of being abandoned as a puppy. She was a clumsy puppy that loved to jump on people. She had no boundaries and was the most insecure dog ever to come to Wilton Animal Rescue. Carol and Leon knew that Kelsey’s best chance for success was to have a trainer spend some time with her. They sent a plea out to our local dog training community and Christina with Paws in Motion Dog Training & Boarding stepped up in a big way.

Kelsey spent a few weeks in training with Christina and thrived. Here are some comments from Christina after Kelsey’s arrival at her training facility:

“Kelsey continues to do amazing!! She’s had zero issues with a new environment or a new person handling her! She’s eating, drinking & zero potties in her kennel! (She’s only on day 1 as well, we can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings! She’s very curious & steadfast- not afraid of new things or challenges! She’s got great confidence thus far, & just needs a pack leader. She’s really going to thrive”

Kelsey did indeed thrive during her time with Christina. She learned boundaries, basic obedience and leash manners. She did so well, Christina was even able to bring her in a store on leash and she behaved beautifully! In addition to donating her time to work with Kelsey, Christina will also be donating three free lessons to whoever adopts her.

Kelsey’s transformation has been incredible. Words to describe her include Friendly, Affectionate, Playful, Curious, Independent, Funny, Athletic, Smart, Dignified, Quiet, Loves Kisses. We know that she is going to be a wonderful addition to her forever family.
