Rescued Chihuahua: Heartwarming Story of Hope and Healing

In March of this year, WAR responded to a Facebook post from a concerned animal lover regarding a Chihuahua who appeared abandoned and had taken refuge in an briar patch on some farmland off Eight Mile Road. The dog was in bad shape..she was not eating much, was reactive to anyone trying to get close and had multiple visible injuries. Carol and Leon drove to the site to determine the best way to secure the dog. She was very timid so they decided to place a trap.

The dog was hungry and walked toward the trap but was reluctant to get in. She would put her paws on the edge and then back out. Finally, they were able to slowly slip a leash on her and then push her into the trap to secure her for transport back to WAR where she would be sheltered, fed and be checked by a veterinarian.

After getting this little girl back to WAR and getting her settled, they took her to the vet to have her injuries and condition evaluated. She has some pus pockets and some bite marks around her neck, as well as her back. She was very temperamental and reactive when touched, but everyone agreed that it was largely due to the fact that she was in a significant amount of pain. They put her on antibiotics and pain medication and hoped that care, time and healing would allow her to feel better and more comfortable with her new surroundings.

It has been several months, and this little girl still resides at WAR. She is healthy and slowly warming up to people but it has been a long process with much more work to go. But one thing is for sure, she will never have to worry about being cold, hungry and forgotten again.
