Thank-you for your interest in adopting a dog from Wilton Animal Rescue (WAR)! WAR is committed to finding well-matched forever homes for the dogs in their care. All of the WAR’s adoptable dogs will be spayed/neutered and microchipped. Vaccines will be administered as needed depending on the age of the dog and the length of their stay with WAR. Any follow-up vaccines that are recommended after the dog has been adopted, will be the responsibility of the adopter and the adopter’s veterinarian. Adoption fees are charged to cover the cost of these important services. Here is an overview of our adoption process:
NOTE: WAR will generally restrict adoptions to a 60 mile radius from our facility.
- Review our list of adoptable dogs.
- Make a note of the dog(s) you are interested in.
- Complete an Adoption Application.
- Once you have complete the application, WAR will screen it. If the application is not approved, you will be notified about the reason. If it passes the initial screening, WAR will contact you to proceed to the next step.
- WAR will contact you to arrange a home check.
- After the home check, WAR will contact you to arrange a meeting with the dog(s) you are interested in. NOTE: If you already have a dog, we will arrange for an off-site introduction between the two dogs at a neutral location. Outside dogs cannot be brought to the rescue to protect the health of the rescue dogs at our facility that are not yet fully vaccinated.
- If you decide to proceed with the adoption, WAR will assess the readiness of the dog to go to their new home based on the status of their vaccine schedule and spay and neuter.
- Once the dog is ready to go home, you will be asked to submit payment for the published adoption fee.
- Bring your new dog home to his/her forever home!
NOTE: Dogs are always welcome back to WAR if the placement does not work out. We do not want you to try and rehome the dog.
WAR also conducts periodic adoption events at Tractor Supply in Galt, CA where we bring some featured adoptable dogs for you to meet. Check our upcoming events to see our next adoption event. NOTE: The adoption process is the same for dogs at adoption events…an adoption application and home check are required.
